Who can live without art?

I have just left my studio and I am exhausted!  I am also still just a little steamed by my 14 year old daughter, whom informed me that being an artist is not a job!  Seriously, this event happened about a week ago and I still do not have a reply.  I asked her why she did not respect that mom made a living selling her inspirations that she turned into objects.  Ok.. maybe those were not my exact words to my recollection.  Anyway..She replied that I was happy, and no one has a job that makes them happy!!  (Obviously she has been hanging around my ex husband to much). Also, my daughter...

Ta da! The finished product. How do ya like these plattaz?

Ok, these platters were very time consuming but so much fun to design.  I would  love some feedback regarding the painted rims.  I stopped doing black edges awhile ago because they are difficult to do.   Each edge needs 4 coats of glaze and then 4 coats of clear coat.  I had 2 orders for the black edge.  Seeing it again makes me want to bring that style back.  I worry that the black edge taking  away from the organic feel and flow of the platter.  What do you think?  Black rim or  no rim?  I have also increased the clear coating, it gives the platters a beautiful shine.  New to my platter...

Come on People!

Ok, so I promised myself that I would never get political or emotional on my blog.  I am making a one time exception in light of the recent tragedy in Boston.  I just can not contain myself.  Why is it that we seem to come together as a nation when there is tragedy?  Why do I feel a sense of unity when horrific events happen?  Wouldn't it be amazing if we always felt compassion, love and gratitude for each other all the time?  What if we just smiled at a stranger or simply said hello to a passerby? The sense of connection it creates is contagious.  Our history has been that a tragedy happens,...

Almost there! Stage 4, clear glazing.

The back and the front of each platter  receives 3 to 4 coats of clear glaze...even though the glaze is pink!  The glaze is pink so we do not miss a spot when applying the glaze.  It fires to a beautiful shiny clear and also seals the platter.

Tovari Platter Production! Stage 3

It is going to be a productive week!  I would love some feedback on these new styles and sizes. The first picture I patiently and carefully painted only the relief.  I also created a painted border around the lace. These platters still have 2 stages left.  The platters will be fired, a clear glaze applied and fired again.  New to Tovari platters are the smaller sized ones I created for 2 clients of mine. Hmmm... I love the smaller size, must make more!

Tovari Platters out to dry

Ater my platters are bisque fired, I wash them off with water removing any dust.  They are then dried before any glaze can be applied.  These platters have a particularly nice view of the water in my back yard : )  This batch of platters contains 2 smaller sized versions of my platters.  They were made for some favorite clients of mine... stay tuned for updated pics of them painted.
